Access Statement

Our aim is to cater for the needs of visitors to our home and this access statement forms part of our service to prospective visitors. If you have any particular questions please do call and we will do all we can to help.

Pre-Arrival

  • Bunlin is a townland rather than a settlement set in hilly landscape outside the town of Milford. The area is not well served by public transport and arrival at Mala Rua is best made by car or motorcycle. The nearest bus station is Letterkenny (20kms/ 12mls). Letterkenny is well served by taxi companies (see below). The nearest airport is Derry/Londonderry 62kms/42mls) which has four car hire companies. The airport website is www.cityofderryairport.com.

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

  • The road to our house is a narrow country road leading to double gates on the left hand side of the road. Mala Rua is identifiable by the Shamrock sign attached to the front wall of the house. The sign indicates that our house is approved by Bord Fáilte, the Irish Tourist Board.
  • The front gates are always open and they lead to a stone driveway. Parking is available for two cars accessed by driving across the front of the house. This parking is on a level area of concrete which runs round the back of the house. A level concrete path connects the parking to the front door of the house.
  • The outside of the house is illuminated during hours of darkness.
  • We can assist guests with luggage.
  • Arrival is between the hours of 17.30 and 19.00 except by prior arrangement.
  • Unfortunately we cannot accommodate pets.
  • For guests who experience difficulty walking or climbing steps we have a rear access via a ramp, 1.7m wide, into the dining room. It is possible to drive round the house to this access which also has a handrail to the door. The door has an 80cm opening and allows access to all facilities on the ground floor.
  • Main Entrance and Reception

    • The front door has three steps, step 1 is 10cm, step 2 is 18cm and step 3 18cm, the door is 85cm wide.
    • The hallway is 98cm wide at its narrowest and has a wooden floor throughout and is well illuminated.
    • Guests will be provided with keys to their room and the front door.
    • The house is centrally heated throughout.
    • Public Areas – General Internal

      • We have one accessible double en-suite bedroom on the ground floor, the Mulroy Room. This room has views over countryside to the front of the house.
      • All light switches in the house are low level at approximately 100cms from the floor.
      • The covering on the stairs is short pile carpet.
      • There are 15 stairs to the first floor leading to a double and single room. The stairs have a handrail to the left side.
      • The breakfast room is on the ground floor as is the guest sitting room.
      • Public Area – Sitting Room

        • The sitting room is at the front of the house with views of open countryside.
        • There are two two-seater settees with cushions, an upright wooden chair, coffee table, nest of three tables, half moon console table and cabinet.
        • The floor is wooden with a large rug.
        • Television which receives both Irish and UK channels.
        • Good lighting.
        • Tourist information and books.
        • Open fire.
        • Dining Room

          • Breakfast is served in the Dining Room on the ground floor.
          • The room has a wooden floor.
          • The dining table is large oak table 180cms by 90cms, with legs on each corner.
          • The table has an underspace of 65cm.
          • There are six high-backed chairs without arms and soft seats 46cms from ground.
          • We may play background music.
          • We can read you the breakfast menu.

          We do not offer a laundry service

          Shops
          The nearest shops and services such as library, health centre and post office are available in Milford.

          Outside Facilities

          • The garden of Mala Rua is on a hillside but it is possible to sit outside and appreciate the surrounding countryside and mountains. A wooden bench is provided at the front of the house.
          • A metal table and four chairs are available for guests to use.
          • A wooden shed can be used for bike storage.
          • Mala Rua is a non-smoking house, so guests may smoke outside.

          Bedroom 1 (Mulroy Room)

          • The Mulroy room is on the ground floor.
          • It is a spacious double room.
          • Door width 74cm; en-suite 70cm.
          • The double bed is 204cms by 155cms by 45cms high.
          • There is approximately 60cms between the bed and wall on each side.
          • Two bed side cabinets 34cm high with a drawer and lamp on each.
          • Wardrobe with shelf and two drawers at the bottom.
          • Chest of six drawers.
          • A leather armchair.
          • A wooden chair with soft pad.
          • 66cm flat screen TV with remote control.
          • Still mineral water and glasses.

          En-suite (Mulroy Room)

          Bedroom 2 (Errigal Room)

          • The Errigal room is on the first floor.
          • It is a double room with a dormer window and a second window. The ceiling of the room slopes into the dormer window wall.

          • The kingsize bed is 216cm by 168cm by 51cm high.
          • There are two bed side cabinets 65cm high with three drawers and lamp on each.
          • There is a walk-in wardrobe with a double hanging rail.
